Butser Ancient Farm, Chalton Lane, Chalton, Waterlooville, Hampshire PO8 0BG
Free Exclusive Pass only for registered HantsAstro members. (Not a Public Event )
To begin our first year of observing, and to say thank you for joining we have arranged a little treat for you at Butser Ancient Farm.
We offer you a free pass to watch one of astronomy’s best ‘firework’ shows of the year, the Perseid Meteor Shower. At one of the darkest dark sky sites in the County, come and enjoy this annual event. Bring along a chair, some warm layered clothing, sit back relax and enjoy the view.
If you want to image the event or take a look at something else, then feel free to bring along your own telescope or binoculars. Refreshments will also be available.
HantsAstro will be taking along it’s own ‘scopes for you to look through until Moon-set just after midnight.
To register, just reply with PERSEID in the header of the e-mail and a pass with map will be sent to you.
We look forward to seeing you there!

We will be reporting on the South West Astronomy Fair at the Norman Lockyer Observatory, based in Sidmouth Devon. This historic site has been going since 1912 and is well worth a visit. The Fair starts at 9am to 6pm, on Saturday 9th August 2008. There will be Planetarium presentations as well a lectures and a prize draw, with over a dozen exhibitors too, promises to be a great day out. Entry is £5 per adult, £2.50 for Children(under 18) and £4 four lectures...
We are pleased to announce that HantsAstro will be attending the Herstmonceux Astronomy Festival 5-7th September 2008 and staying overnight for the duration for some observing sessions in the centre itself and will also have a stand there. Details will be posted shortly if you wish to come along or help out.
Please let me know if you are also interested in attending Autumn Equinox Sky Camp 2008 which is from the 22nd September to 2nd October at Kelling Heath, Norfolk. We are planning a trip there around the 27th.
We are proud to announce that from September HantsAstro will be observing fro Butser Ancient Farm, nr Chalton, Hampshire and in the grounds of INTECH Science Centre & Planetarium.
Our full observing programme will commence in September 2008.
Entry to the Observing Sessions at INTECH are Free of Charge starting Sept '08. For Butser Ancient Farm there will be a entry fee, refreshments and facilities will be available.
Permissions have been granted and details are currently being finalised before roll-out. All observing sessions are covered by our insurance, and are only open exclusively to fully registered members who will be issued with passes.
The observing sessions at INTECH are designed to be free and are a great introduction to astronomy in general, which hopefully will lead into even better things. We will be supporting INTECH, with some of their events, and they in turn provide us with a unique opportunity to encourage people to observe the night sky for free.
It's a great way to get introduced into astronomy or rekindle a interest into this facinating amateur science.
All observing the sessions are fully covered by insurance for public liability and employee liability, as well as covering our equipment. Our core team members will be CRB compliance checked, as there are times that we may be in contact with children under the age of 18, at INTECH.
Tests are being carried out during the summer at several sites in Hampshire to accomodate the observing party numbers we are generating, given the types of astronomy the group wants to do such as astrophotography, planetary and deep-sky observing.
At other events, charges maybe made to members and public to cover costs for the site owner and ourselves.
We do not seek to make a profit from entry fee.
