Welcome to HantsAstro. Astronomy that's really 'Out There'. Whether on your own or in a group, stargazing is fun at any level. Pretty much any telescope or binoculars will improve what you can see with just your own eyes. Who needs BIG Telescopes? It's not just about the gear (though it is nice!)
It's for anyone who has an interest in Astronomy who want's to use this as a stepping stone into something more active.

We will tell you what is happening and where in Hampshire to go to regarding all things astronomical. New dark sky sites, the observatories, planetariums, what to look at and how to get the best from your equipment. Unique UK based reviews on 'Grab n Go' scopes and other equipment, so you can beat the Hampshire weather! We have launched a monthly eZine Look Up!, that will give you some help when you're out in the field. Future issues are shaping up already... Join In with free membership, a free eZine, free updated information and free software and unique independent reviews...

This is the first astronomy group of it's kind - it's online but not virtual. There's no risk, and no catch.

We do not pass your details on to anyone else.

Just pure Astronomy.

If you really get the bug then why not visit your local astronomy group, all have a wealth of experience and regular talks and seminars. Some also have their own observatories with some of the best 'scopes in the UK. Join us, join them, join in!.

Our site is coming together as interest is growing so keep checking here at HantsAstro.org.

We're a new kind of group and there is much to do, so thank you for your interest and hope you enjoy seeing HantsAstro evolve as much as we do.

HantsAstro Update

Since Launch we have had many new members join us in a short space of time so the race is now on to find the best dark sky sites in Hampshire that meet our criteria. Our observing programme will start in September 2008. Tests are being carried out during the summer at several sites to accomodate the observing party numbers we are likely to generate, given the types of astronomy the group want to do such as astrophotography and deep-sky.

More information can be found in Look Up!, where there are more details on our plans and progress.

If you check out our review pages, you will see that we have a lot of reviews currently in progress. Some of these will be reserved for the eZine then released online sometime after.

It is not possible to put all the reviews in the eZine, so we will be creating an online resource and that will be rolled out over the summer. This will be an ongoing project to support the 'Look Up! eZine content and further enhance the site.
